Can I clean the filters with a vacuum cleaner or with water?

image

Vacuuming the replaceable filter is not recommended for the following reasons:

  • Risk of Damage
Vacuuming a filter can potentially damage its delicate fibers or components, reducing its effectiveness.
  • Release of Particles
During vacuuming, trapped particles may be released back into the air, defeating the purpose of using an air purifier.
  • Reduced Efficiency
Vacuuming does not remove all contaminants from the filter, especially fine dust. It does not extend the filter's lifespan as expected, since the filter's capacity cannot be renewed by vacuuming.

Most replaceable filters are also not designed to be cleaned with water.
This is due to several reasons:

  • Damage to Filter Structure
HEPA filters consist of tightly packed fibers that capture particles. Water can soften, displace, or destroy these fibers, causing the filter to lose its ability to effectively capture fine particles such as pollen, dust, or allergens.
  • Mold Formation
Even if the filter is dried after cleaning, residual moisture often remains. This can lead to mold growth, which not only reduces the filter's performance but can also be harmful to health.
  • Materials Not Water-Resistant
Many filters are made of materials like paper, glass fibers, or specialized plastics that are not water-resistant. Water can cause irreversible damage to these materials.
  • Warranty Void
Cleaning a filter that is not designed for it may void the warranty of the device, as it is often considered improper use.

Tip:
Most of our air purifiers are equipped with washable pre-filters that capture larger particles such as hair and dust. These can be cleaned, while the actual HEPA or activated carbon filters should be replaced regularly.

ESP-filter: How can the ESP-filter be cleaned?

image

In order for the BONECO ESP filter to maintain its effectiveness, it must be cleaned from time to time. We recommend a cleaning interval of 2-4 weeks depending on the intensity of use. Contamination is relatively easy to see on the filter. The filter should be cleaned at the latest when the static crackling noise that can be heard when the device is switched on does not disappear even after 5 - 10 minutes. The ESP filter can be cleaned by hand under running water or in a dishwasher.

Cleaning by hand

  • Use a pH-neutral detergent (10 g / 1000 ml) in 40 °C warm water for washing.
  • After washing, rinse the filter with clean water and dry it with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Allow the filter to rest in a dry place for at least 5 hours to ensure it is completely dry before reinserting it into the fan.

Cleaning by dishwasher

  • Never together with greasy materials. Only with pH-neutral detergents suitable for the dishwasher. Never hotter than 70°C. Only with one wash cycle. No longer than 2 hours (including drying).
  • Place the filter in the dishwasher.
  • Run a suitable washing program taking into account the safety information mentioned above. A short program of approx. 1 hour at 50°C is recommended.
  • After the washing program is finished, remove the filter from the dishwasher and check it for damage or deformation. Do not put a damaged filter back into the machine. Slight deformations may occur at high washing temperatures (70°C), but do not affect the function of the filter.
  • After washing, always check that the filter is completely dry. If necessary, let the filter rest in a dry place for up to 5 hours to ensure that it is completely dry before reinserting it into the fan.
  • Always allow the filter to cool to room temperature before reinserting it into the fan.

You will also find a detailed description of filter cleaning in the Clean & Cool Air Shower manual.

What is the difference between cleaning and descaling?

image

Warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth or washing-up brush are used for cleaning. This ensures general cleanliness and the prevention of bacterial growth in the humidifier. A humidifier should be cleaned at least every 2 weeks in order to continue to ensure hygienic and healthy operation.

Warm water and descaling agent (A7417 CalcOff) are used for descaling, which dissolves mineral deposits (limescale) from surfaces and evaporator mats during a certain exposure time. The frequency of the necessary descaling depends on the hardness of the water. As a rule, devices that are used with harder water should be descaled more often in order to continue to ensure trouble-free operation.
After each descaling, the humidifier must be cleaned with warm water and washing-up liquid in order to completely remove both dissolved limescale residues and residues of the descaling agent.

Result: A regular combination of both steps is ideal for keeping the humidifier clean and efficient.

What is the difference between the POLLEN and COMFORT filters (AH300 POLLEN Filter/AH320 POLLEN Filter & AH300 COMFORT Filter/AH320 COMFORT Filter)?

image

Both filter types POLLEN and COMFORT reduce fine dust, pollen, hair, mites, bacteria, mold spores and allergens in the air.

The COMFORT filter also has an activated carbon layer that effectively neutralises odours and binds harmful gases such as ozone, nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide, as well as a biofunctional layer that prevents the growth of bacteria and mould on the filter.

When is it recommended to change accessories?

image

All filters (air purifier and hybrid): 1x per year or with filter change indication on the device or in the app

AW200 + AH700 evaporator mat: Every 2 years

A7018 Evaporator Mat: Every 2-3 months

Air Shower Fans

image

Can I expand my device with additional poles than were originally supplied?

image

No, the number of poles supplied is the safe maximum height for the device. With additional poles, the risk of tipping over is too high and can lead to damage or injury.

F220CC & F230CC: My device crackles

image

This is the electrostatic filter. This must build up an electrostatic charge during initial operation or after filter cleaning in order to achieve the filter effect. During this time, a crackling sound may be heard, which disappears after a short period of operation. After prolonged operation, crackling may also occur, which is an indication that the filter needs to be cleaned.

BONECO APP BLUETOOTH: Why do I need to turn on Location Services for the connection?

image

Since 2018, Google has required the activation of the location service by default when connecting a smartphone to a Bluetooth device.
Unfortunately, from a technical point of view, there is no alternative way to connect, as these guidelines are a mandatory requirement.
Of course, we do not evaluate location data - your privacy is very important to us.
However, you can allow the app to access your location so that we can show you the current weather (including temperature and humidity) at your location.
This is not mandatory, you can also enter your location manually for the weather service.

Different types of treated water and their use with humidifiers

image

Suitable for humidifiers:

  • distilled water
  • demineralized water by osmosis

The A250 filter cartridge can be dispensed with when using the above-mentioned types of water. However, the use of the Ionic Silver Stick® is expressly recommended - even with treated water. Although its use reduces the frequency with which the humidifier needs to be descaled, regular cleaning is essential.

NOT suitable for humidifiers:

  • demineralized water by ion exchanger / Salt-based descaling system
  • Water with dissolved ingredients (e.g. saline solution)

Does a humidifier make sense in a Minergie apartment (passive house)?

image

A humidifier can also make sense in buildings with a controlled ventilation system. To increase the effect of a humidifier, it should be positioned correctly. In a well-ventilated room, the moisture can be distributed more quickly, which makes the humidifier particularly efficient in buildings with a ventilation system.

The constant exchange of air also removes moisture from the interior rooms, which is why passive humidifiers such as an evaporator or air washer, which have low power consumption and are suitable for continuous operation, are well suited to Minergie buildings. When choosing an active humidifier, such as an ultrasonic or steamer, a device with an integrated hygrostat is recommended so that the room air is not over-humidified.

How can I determine the quality of my air?

image

Air quality is made up of various factors. Among the most important are temperature, relative humidity, CO2 level, as well as potential "contaminants" such as allergens, particles, VOC & odors. These factors can be measured via the sensors in our devices, as well as with separate sensors, and optimized accordingly with our air treatment devices.

How can optimum relative humidity reduce the spread of viruses and thus susceptibility to pathogens?

image

Viruses are transmitted via aerosols in the air. A relative humidity of 40% to 60% is therefore important, as the aerosols absorb the moisture, become heavier and fall to the ground. In addition, our mucous membranes are kept moist, making them better able to filter and ward off viruses.

While the humidity is below 40%, these viruses can remain in the air and spread. If the humidity is constantly above 60%, there is a risk of mold growth, dust mites and bacteria.

How do I decide on a humidification system? Evaporator, Air Washer, Steamer or Ultrasonic?

image

The choice between an Evaporator or Air Washer, Steamer or Ultrasonic depends on what you personally want to focus on when making your choice.

Passive humidifiers use natural evaporation to increase humidity. Equipped with an Evaporator mat that soaks up water and releases the moisture into the room air, these devices are energy-efficient, self-regulating and therefore ideal for continuous operation.
It should be noted that this type of humidification requires more time until the humidity in the room is increased

  • Evaporator
  • Air Washer
  • HYBRID

Active humidifiers include Ultrasonic, which use ultrasonic waves to break down the water into a fine mist, and Steamer, which use a heating plate to boil the water and release it into the room air as steam. These devices can increase the relative humidity within a short time, which is why it is recommended that they are only used when the room air is very dry. These appliances are not suitable for continuous operation unless the humidity is regulated by means of an integrated hygrostat.
It should be noted that this type of humidification requires more energy and the humidity should be regulated to avoid over-humidification.

  • Ultrasonic
  • Steamer

Conclusion:
Evaporator and Air Washer: Slow, energy-saving humidification
Ultrasonic: Fast, quiet humidification
Steamer: Fast humidification with heat and germ-reducing effect

How do I know which air treatment device is right for me?

image

The choice between an air purifier or a humidifier depends on several factors that should be taken into account.
Air purifiers: remove dust, pollen, bacteria, viruses, mold spores and sometimes other pollutants from the air
Humidifiers: Especially during the cold season, these devices are suitable for improving the relative humidity indoors (dry heating air)

May fragrances/essential oils be used?

image

Essential oils may only be used on appliances with an integrated fragrance container. For appliances that are not suitable for fragrances/essential oils, even a small amount is enough to damage the plastic.

Noise development in the power supply unit

image

Power supply units can generate quiet noises as their transistors hold a charge. Due to manufacturing tolerances, this can be particularly noticeable for people with sensitive hearing. Replacement of the power supply unit is recommended if the noise is perceived as disturbing.

Power cable / plug is damaged

image

SERVICE & REPAIR: I need to send my humidifier in for analysis/repair. What should be considered?

image

Please ensure that your humidifier, as well as any components such as evaporator mats, are completely dry before sending it in for analysis or repair.
If the device is shipped damp, there is a high risk of mold forming inside.
This can not only affect the function of the device, but also require additional cleaning or repair measures.
Please remove any filter cartridge (A250) beforehand and do not send it along.
Keep this open (not wrapped in plastic) to allow it to dry out.
Then let the tank dry out before you ship it.

A dry submission helps to avoid mentioned problems, reduce processing time and avoid additional repair costs.

What are the positive effects of professional air humidification?

image
  • Increases your well-being day and night
  • Prevents dry skin, a scratchy throat and red eyes
  • Protects the mucous membranes from drying out
  • Reduces the time that flu viruses and pollen can "hang" in the air as airborne particles
  • Creates a good climate for animals, plants, wooden furniture and musical instruments
  • Minimizes dirt particles in the room air

What do I use to clean the surface / outer surface of the appliance?

image

The exterior plastic surfaces of the appliances can be cleaned with a damp cloth. For coarser soiling, a little PH neutral dishwashing detergent can also be used with the damp cloth.

What happens to the minerals (chalk) contained in the water when the air is humidified?

image

Evaporator, Air Washer, HYBRID: Due to natural evaporation, limescale remains in the evaporator mat and on the internal parts

Ultrasonic: The atomization of the water also releases minerals into the room air (please therefore always use your BONECO Ultrasonic with the A250 AQUA PRO water filter, which softens the water and thus reduces limescale; exception: when using distilled water)

Steamer: Boiling the water leaves minerals as limescale deposits in the steamer bowl (please therefore always use your BONECO Steamer with the A451 Anti-Mineral-Pad; exception: when using distilled water)

Regular cleaning of the device is essential for every humidification system.

What is the difference between an Air Purifier and a HYBRID Humidifier & Air Purifier

image

The Air Purifiers are equipped with technologies and filter packages optimized for the removal of pollen and other allergens, particulate matter, gases and odors, and provide high air purification performance. The HYBRID Humidifiers & Air Purifiers are humidifiers with an Air Washer system in which a mat absorbs water and then releases it into the air. In addition, they have built-in filters that can filter pollen, dust, and other allergens from the air. The air humidification and air purification functions can be used individually or simultaneously.

What is the optimum relative humidity?

image

The optimum relative humidity is between 40% and 60%. Values that are too low cause dehydration of the skin and irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes. Values that are too high encourage mold and house dust mites. In both cases, bacteria have the opportunity to spread more easily.

What other information can I find in the operating instructions?

image

Technical data, Positioning the appliance and commissioning, Operation, Indications on the display, Overview of functions in the app, Pairing the appliance with the app, Different operating modes, Different modes, Cleaning instructions, Replacing the accessories

Where can I get spare parts for my BONECO air treatment device?

image

Many spare parts require technical expertise and should only be replaced by experienced technicians. Otherwise there is a risk of electric shock or fire. Spare parts are available from our partners or from us. Please contact our local partner or our Customer Support.

Where does the "plastic smell" come from?

image

The odor is completely harmless and is due to the fact that the appliance was packaged directly after production and the smell of new plastic could not completely escape. If you wish, you can also place the appliance outside in a dry place for a short time so that the odor can escape completely.

Which alternative mains cable is suitable for my device?

image

Devices that have a plug-in mains cable can be supplied with a standard cable. There are 2 types in use here: steamers work with a 3-pin cable with an IEC plug (like most PCs), air washers and air purifiers and fans work with a 2-pin cable with a C13 plug. All other devices are hard-wired - a damaged cable should be replaced by a technician.

If you have any questions, please contact customer service or a specialist for the repair of electrical appliances.

Which alternative power supply unit is suitable for my device?

image

All our devices with external power supply work with 24V DC - Barrel Connector and Positive Center. If you choose a third-party power supply, make sure that it is a CE-certified replacement part that can meet or exceed the current (A) or power (W) requirements of your device. These requirements can be found in the technical data in the manual for your appliance.

If necessary, please also contact our customer service department.

Why does the hygrometer in my device show a different relative humidity than an external hygrometer?

image

With uncalibrated sensors which are installed in Humidifiers, measurement differences can occur within a certain range. Every sensor has a natural tolerance that can lead to deviations, which is normal for uncalibrated devices. In the case of the built-in temperature sensor, the tolerance is +/- 5 degrees, for the humidity sensor +/- 6%. In addition, the location of the sensor (device and external hygrometer) is decisive, because depending on the position (height in the room, doors, windows, sunlight, shade, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, etc.), air currents and turbulence occur which influence the measurement result. Every sensor has a natural tolerance that can lead to deviations, which is normal for uncalibrated devices. In addition, the location of the sensor (device and external hygrometer) is decisive, because depending on the position (height in the room, doors, windows, sunlight, shade, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, etc.), air currents and turbulence occur which influence the measurement result.

Example: Humidity is given as a relative percentage value, as the air can "absorb" more or less water relative to the temperature. This means that the same amount of water in the air results in a higher relative humidity at low temperatures than at high temperatures. As warmer air rises, a hygrometer placed higher can show a lower relative humidity than a device placed on the floor.

Why is ventilation alone not enough to achieve optimum relative humidity in a room in winter?

image

As cold air cannot absorb much moisture, the room air becomes even drier when the windows are opened. Only fresh oxygen enters the room through the open windows, but humidity is lost to the outside as the warm, more humid room air flows out.

Air Washer: Can the AW200 Evaporator Mat be cleaned?

image

Yes, the AW200 Evaporator Mat can be cleaned either by hand or at max. 40°C in the washing machine and thus has a lifespan of up to 2 years.

Air Washer: Do Air Washer make noise during operation?

image

Air Washers are extremely quiet in operation and only produce a gentle noise reminiscent of white noise. Models with an additional water tank work on the principle of a bird bath. Every now and then, there may be "gurgling" noises when water flows into the tub. These noises are perfectly normal and a sign that the device is working properly.

Air Washer: Does an Air Washer filter odors from the air?

The LED on the HYBRID device flashes red

If filling up water does not work, check the app for existing error messages.

Will my HYBRID device automatically switch to air purification mode in hybrid mode once the desired humidity level has been reached?

image

If the preset target humidity is exceeded in hybrid mode and the particle sensor does not detect "bad" air quality, the device will go into standby mode, which is indicated by the pulsing LED on the device (above the LED ring).

If the desired humidity is reached, but the device detects poor air quality, the operation remains active, but without the humidifier drum spinning.

X200: Why does my X200 Thermo-Hygrometer still show a smiling smiley at 70% relative humidity?

image

Neutral smiley: Whenever the humidity is between 20% and 39%
Sad smiley: Whenever the humidity is above 70%
Laughing smiley: ONLY when the temperature is between 20°C and 25°C AND the humidity is between 40% and 70%.
If the temperature is higher or lower (e.g. 19.5°C), but the humidity is between 40% and 70%, the comfort factor is not bad, but also not optimal, so no smiley is displayed.

X200: Why does the X200 Thermo-Hygrometer show a different value than my humidifier?

The placement of the hygrometer is crucial. Humidity is given as a relative percentage, as the air can "absorb" more or less water relative to the temperature. This means that the same amount of water in the air results in a higher relative humidity at low temperatures than at high temperatures. As warmer air rises, a higher placed hygrometer can indicate a lower relative humidity than a device placed on the floor. The same can happen if one sensor is placed in the sun and the other sensor in the shade, or one near a heater and the other on a cool exterior wall.
