Are Humidifiers Bacteria Slingers?

BONECO clears the air

How to properly care for and maintain your Humidifier.

The fact is that Humidifiers are not bacteria slingers - with the right care and maintenance. A Humidifier can be a valuable addition to the indoor climate, especially in dry environments or during the heating season. However, it can also become a health risk if it is not properly maintained and spreads bacteria and mould. With the colder temperatures and dry air, there are some important things to consider when using a Humidifier.

1. Regular cleaning

  • Daily cleaning: Check the water daily and top up with water if necessary.
  • Weekly cleaning: Empty and clean the Humidifier thoroughly once a week. Detailed cleaning instructions can be found in the operating instructions for the appliance.

2. Cleaning the water tray and water tank

We recommend our CalcOff for cleaning and descaling BONECO Humidifiers. CalcOff has been specially developed for efficient and carefree cleaning of all Humidifiers. It is not only environmentally friendly, as it is in powder form, but also easy to use. We recommend cleaning and descaling every 2 to 3 weeks.

3. Change the water filter regularly

  • If your Humidifier is equipped with a filter, change it regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions. An old or dirty filter can become a source of germs.
  • The A250 AQUA PRO absorbs impurities and removes odours from the water and also lasts 5 times longer than conventional water filters.

4. Ionic Silver Stick®

  • Our Ionic Silver Stick® utilises the antimicrobial effect of silver to massively and sustainably support microbial growth in the Humidifier itself. We recommend that our customers replace the Ionic Silver Stick® every year.

5. Further Information

  • Only use clean and fresh water
  • Ensure that the humidity in the room remains between 40 and 60 %. Too high a humidity level promotes the growth of mould and dust mites, while too low a level can dry out the mucous membranes.
  • Allow the Humidifier to dry completely if it is not to be used for a longer period of time. This prevents the growth of mould and bacteria inside.

By following these measures, you can ensure that your Humidifier remains hygienic and keeps the indoor air healthy instead of spreading bacteria or mould.
